The Myth and Facts about Virginity
When it comes to old times, the virginity of women was regarded to be a very precious thing. Even virginity had been seen to be associated with so many values and rituals, and due to this, women used to go a lot of suffering and pain. But as time goes by and medical science revealed many facts about this, the thoughts of people are now changing. Sex before marriage is no longer a taboo subject. Beyond the beliefs and grievances of the older generation, premarital sex is widespread today.
Couples who are living in a relationship are now open-minded. They talk about sex, share their opinion, and enjoy sex fully. That means they are now free from any restrictions of morality. However, still, in the case of arrange-marriage, especially in rural areas, people have taboo thoughts about virginity. Their eyebrows are raised when they doubt the virginity of a woman on the first night of marriage. Such people for whom virginity still matters can create problems for women.
There are still a large number of people of this mindset in our society. This is because all these things are firmly rooted in our culture and tradition. According to Dr. Watts, ‘I always have to be asked a common question, how do I know my girlfriend or future wife is a virgin? But the clear answer for this is that there is no way to know it.
Virginity is not a big issue, it can be damaged for so many reasons. But there is an old complaint from men that their wife did not bleed on the first night. It is a completely stupid question that if she does not bleed, she is not a virgin. This is not necessarily the case with everyone. There can be no bleeding even if a woman is a virgin.
The Fact about Virginity
The Bleeding due to rupture of hymen present in the female private part is not proof of virginity. The truth is the hymen can also damage due to sports, dancing, and horse riding, or even sitting on two-wheelers. That means hymen can also be damaged for other reasons without having sex. In some women, the hymen doesn’t even present at birth. Also, in many women, this layer is very elastic and does not rupture even during intercourse.
So, whether or not a girl is a virgin, it can be ascertained in only two ways – either she is pregnant or she herself accepts it. A safe hymen can never be proof of virginity, because nowadays even by performing a small operation, an artificial hymen can be placed. Many doctors are having such cases. Now medical science has grown so much that a plastic surgeon can easily place hymen-like tissues in woman’s vagina. This procedure is called hymenoplasty.
According to the research, only 42 percent of women have bleeding during the first intercourse. Therefore it is not wise to say that bleeding at first intercourse is proof of being a virgin.
